As your child grows, he/she will enjoy many firsts – the first word, steps, and eventually the first day of school. Somewhere in between, you should definitely plan that all-important first visit to the dentist. You might think since your son or daughter will eventually outgrow their baby teeth, that it isn’t necessary to come to see us until all of their adult teeth have come in. In truth, the first dental visit while the baby teeth are still there is a must.
Your pediatrician may recommend that you make an appointment with a pediatric dentist when your child is around five years old. By this time, all the baby teeth should be in, and you should already have taught your children good dental habits. The first visit to the dentist is typically an introduction to what they can expect – and a good dentist will ensure that your son or daughter is comfortable. Depending on the nature of the visit, your child may get X-rays and/or cleaning right off the bat, otherwise, the dentist will take a good look to make sure your child’s teeth are coming in straight.
Going to the dentist, no matter your age doesn’t have to be an intimidating experience. We are excited to welcome new patients – young and young at heart – to our dental practice and will do all we can to guarantee your comfort during your visit. If you have any questions about the first visit to our practice, don’t hesitate to call us.
